The colony Friedrichsdorf was founded in the years 1773 to 1775. Attracted by free-of-charge land, houses, tax and military exemption and religious freedom several hundred families mainly from the Palatinate settled here. Unique is the kind of settlement, all houses could only be built at one side of the road.
In 1951 the village Friedrichsdorf was renamed to Großderschau, after the larger colony, after the Prussian minister of state Friedrich Wilhelm von Derschau
