In the town district of Hünxe, Gartrop-Bühl, the water castle Gartop is located.
The castle facilities nests in the plains of the river Lippe in the southern area of the nature reserve park Hohe Mark and consist of a baroque estate, an outer castle, 2 gatehouses and a water mill.
The castle is surrounded by an English landscaped garden with a network of water moats.
From the town of Gartrop, which originates from the settlement of the former castle staff, the Schlossallee leads, passing a small water mill built in the 15th century, across a bridge to an
Entrance gate.
At the top of the two pillars you find almost life-sized sand stone statues of the gods of Athene and Concordia. On top of the right pillar is the god of peace and harmony, Concordia, and on the left pillar is Athene, in her armour. The statues were created by Johann Wilhelm Gröninger.
Today the castle is used as a hotel.
