Botanical Gardens of the Bonn university

The park like facility behind Palace Poppelsdorf, is one of the most popular destinations of Bonn's citizens and tourists. Only a walk of 10 minutes away from the main railway station and the city centre, around 11.000 plant species are growing here outdoors and also in different greenhouses.

The Botanical Garden undertakes numerous events and offers lectures and guided tours.

A great highlight is the blooming event of the Titan Aroids blossom. The height of the blossom was 290cm in the year 2013. Typical for it is the dark brown-crimson colour and its foul odour of decomposition, with which the plant imitates a decaying animal carcass and thus attracts tiny nocturnal beetles as well as bees.

But the Botanical Garden serves mainly research and teaching - not only in the subject of biology. Co-workers provide plant material for the most diverse research purposes, hold identification course and offer guided tours.

The Botanical Gardens are open all year round.

During the summer half year (1st of April to 31st of October) the following opening times apply:

  • Daily, apart from Saturday 10am - 6pm, Thursdays till 8pm
  • Sundays and public holidays admission 3 Euro, reduced 1 Euro
  • The Botanical Gardens are always closed on Saturdays.
