Blankenhagen

There seems likely that there was a cult site for the north-Germanic goddess Freya in Blankenhagen in pre-Christian times. The area was probably used first as grazing and guarding settlement for Thüdinghausen and wasn't constantly inhabited until the 12th-century. Blankenhagen was first recorded in a Welfen certificate from the year 1318. In wars and feuds Blankenhagen was destroyed several times and rebuilt again. The population counted hardly anymore than 100. In 1975 Blankenhagen had 83 citizens, which increased to 97 in the year 1985. With just 75 in the year 1997 the district had the lowest population since 1975. It rose to 94 in 2005.

The small mountain village Blankenhagen is situated on the Weper, a ridge, which stretches on a length of 10km between Fredelsloh and Hardegsen and is with its 94 citizens (status May 2006) on of the smallest of the Weper villages. The altitude of the village offers a wide view over the land up to the mountains of the Harz and Hesse county.

The village is part of the community Moringen and the rural district Northeim since the incorporation in the year 1974.
Settlements were probably happening in the 12th-century. The village was first mentioned in the year 1318.
