Bismarck-Monument in Dueren

In Düren along the Bismarckstraße in the Theodor-Heuss-Park stands the larger than life neo-classical bronze statue of the Reich Chancellor Otto von Bismarck. He was born on the 1.04.1815 in Schönhausen and he died on the 30.07.1898 in Friedrichsruh near Hamburg. The sculpture depicts the Reich Chancellor with the certificate of the emperor declamation in hand. It was created by the Berlin sculptor Joseph Uphues in 1892.

The ceremonial unveiling of the Bismarck monument took place in September 1892. He was Düren's honorary citizen. On the 21.03.1895 took the awarding of the freedom of the city place. The monument survived the war more or less unscathed.
