Alt-Biesdorf 55
12683 Berlin One of the most beautiful parks of Berlin-Marzahn is the palace park Biesdorf. The palace and the park were created by Baron von Rüxleben in 1868 in the place of the old estate. The villa was built in the Italian Renaissance style. Werner von Siemens - the founder of the Siemens-Concern - bought the whole estate in 1887. He had the palace reconstructed. He left the house to his son Wilhelm in 1889. Wilhelm von Siemens apparently experimented with wireless telegraphy on the palace tower. The city of Berlin bought palace and park Biesdorf in 1927. The palace was heavily damaged by arson during the 2nd World War. During rebuilding in the GDR the re-erection of the second floor was not done. It has been the seat of the Marzahn Culture Centre since 1979.
The whole facility is under preservation order and being redeveloped to monumental protection specifications until 2007. The south side of the late classicism tower-villa is already completely redeveloped and the facade shines again in pink. The tower is right now being rebuilt with donations. The Stiftung Ost-West-Begegnungsstätte Schloß Biesdorf e.V. strives to build the upper floor.
Biesdorf Palace is used today, as a social-cultural centre, as a library, for events, readings and palace concerts. All information about the events is available directly on the Homepage of Betreibers BALL e.V. Palace opening times:
