Out of the settlement around the St. Albani Church (called the old village) originated later the trading town Göttingen. It was first recorded in 953.

The car park at the Albaniplatz is available to visitors of the city or the opposite situated Stadthalle.

On the other side one can reach the Cheltenham Park.

The Cheltenham-Park was named after its English twin town. In its centre is the Rohns´sche Badehaus. Opened in 1820 it was the first public bath house. However it was then only open to men!

Other well worth seeing points in the park are the Schwänchen Lake as well as remnants of moat and rampart system of the outer town fortifications.
