The post-mill exists since 1651 on the scenic Geest. In it's place the present Dutch windmill was built in 1761. The mill has a height of 29m, two levels and a thatched tower. Each sail is eleven metres long. To adjust the milling optimal to the wind regime, a wind compass was fitted in 1912. Later an electric motor was built in. Until 1965 the 'Dutch' worked with two grinding stones and roller mill. When the mill dying set in this mill was also fell victim and was shut down. Since 1969 the mill is open to the public for sightseeing and events. This is made possible by the care of the 'Verein zur Erhaltung der Achimer Windmühle e.V.' and the city of Achim. This historical building is Achim's emblem. From there one has a wide view over the Wesermarsch. The emphasis of a viewing is in the areas of architecture, carpentering and the mill's mode of operation.

Tip: Niedersächsische Mühlenstraße (Lower Saxony Mill Road)

Lower Saxony, the land of mills. Once constructed to mill corn, today the many wind and water mills in the Middle-Weser region are historical monuments and thus an attractions. Lovingly restored and more often than not made functional again. One seems to be back in the past. Whether water, turbine, Dutch or tower windmill - all types can be marvel at. The Niedersächsische Mühlenstraße runs through Achim. Further information: www.niedersaechsische-muehlenstrasse.de
