One of the most important battles for Berlin's defence raged on the 6th of September 1813 in and around Dennewitz in the course of the Battle of Leipzig against the Napoleonic foreign rule.
50.000 men of the Prussian army stood against 70.000 soldiers of the French army.
The last section of the battle turned into a disaster for the French.
The Prussians had lost over 10.00 men in this battle, the French counted 22.000 dead, wounded and prisoners of war. They also lost 53 heavy guns, 412 vehicles and 4 banners.
Today 11 monuments nearby remember the brave battle against the Napoleonic foreign rule. The foundation for a successful course of the Battle of Leipzig was laid here. The Napoleonic army was destroyed.
In 1913 the Bülow-Monument was bestowed to General Bülow the commander-in-chief of the victorious troops.
