700 years artwork Watermill Melbeck
The Melbecker mill is a historical building from the year 1265. It was first recorded due to the sale on the Monday before Ascension Day. Roughly one hundred years later in the year 1355 the mill's title was sold again to the abbot of the Michaelis monastery. Since then the mill was a monastery mill and subject to thithe until the year 1834.
The present mill building as Speicherhaus was built in 1907 and was raised in 1923. The old oil and malt mill was turned into a modern mill, which could also produce flour.
Soon the Melbecker flour's good quality was known and a constant circle of bakery customers in and around Lüneburg came into being.
In the seventies the mill was abandon due to the general mill dying and the surrounding farmland sold.
Since then the mill is privately owned and shows its history and tradition now in a new exciting ambiance to interested visitors and guests.
In June 2005 the NDR III came to Mehlbeck with a huge contingent to report about the old mill, which was then 700 years old.
Since then the mill in its present form as event location for private festivities with a special flair is delighted to see growing popularity.
