The market town Freiburg

In 1971 the until then independent community Freiburg decided together with the neighbouring communities Balje, Krummendeich, Oederquart and Wischhafen to form a joined community and so conserve independence.

The loyalty of the people to Freiburg, originating through fighting several natural disasters, forms the life of the Freiburg citizens. The strong homeland bond characterises also the mentality of the Freiburg citizens.

In contrast to the more agricultural orientated communities Balje, Krummendeich and Oederquart, Freiburg has a commercial character.
This explains why Freiburg is the only village with a grown village centre. The historical part is well worth seeing.
In addition Freiburg is the centre of the joined community Nordkehdingen and seat of the joined community administration.
