Wilthen is situated in a beautiful valley between Mönchswald Mountain and the Weifaer Heights, with the villages Sora, Irgersdorf and Tautewalde.

A short view into the history
In the beginning Wilthen was a Wendish Waldhufendorf (wood-huf-village) but in its first recording in the year 1222 Wilthen was already the Oberlausitz's first large settlement in the south.

The market and town privilege was bestowed upon Withen already in 1669 but was only used in 1969.

If you want to know more about Wilthen's history than come and visit the  "Heimatstube". There you can go back in time with the exhibits.
The Heimatstube is situated in the "Haus des Gastes" at the Bahnhofsstraße 8, opposite the Town Hall.

The Wizard of the Oberlausitz
A man with the name Martin Pumphut travelled as a miller's journeyman through the land.
If he got good accommodation he loved to tell jokes and funny stories.

Were people mean to him or he even had to suffer then he would pay back with pranks and witchcrafts.
He performed his wizardry with his pointed, high, wide-brimmed hat, which he wore all the time.

There are diverse offers for sports enthusiasts in Wilthen and surroundings.
