Coat-of-arm: 'On silver a green ferry boat, which has a silver 'B' in its sail going to the right; in green a shield-head with wavy base surrounded by two silver oak leaves a silver acorn'.

The ferry boat relates to the Weser crossover, which has been existing in this place for centuries. It connects the Barmer estate on both sides of the Weser. The sail reminds one of the many sailboats, which used to land in Barme regularly over the weekend. The oak leaves point to the old oak population at the Weser banks as the wavy line relates to the Weser, which runs as silver band next to the green banks on green-silver colours.

Finds indicate first settlements in the Neolithic age (2000 to 4000 BC).

A motte in the Barmer forest points to an early medieval defensive dyke (customs house?).

In the housing estate area Drübber a Snedenstein (stone) was put up in 1575 (border between diocese Verden, the shire Hoya and the duchy of Lüneburg).

In 1937 the powder factory 'EIBIA' was built as an arms facility in the Barmer forest. At times up to 2000 foreign workers (Belgians, Dutch, French, Poles, Russians) prisoners of war as well as Germans worked there.

In this area the 'Niedersachsenkaserne' for the Bundeswehr was newly built in 1958. At times up to 4000 soldiers were housed here (at times: tanks, pioneer, air defence, transport units and American units and the administration village Drübber). The Bundeswehr vacated the barrack on the 1. September 2003.

In 1958 numerous housing estates were also built for the army members, which gave the little village Barme (around 400 citizens) suddenly a very different face and different structure (1.400 citizens).
In 1964 a four-class primary school was set up and a bit later also a church 'St. Georg', which belongs to the church community Dörverden.

In 1972 Barme lost its independence in a state-wide government area reform. Barme was merged with other communities to the new community Dörverden.
