The old Kiel Franciscan Monastery

The exact date of origin for the Kiel Franciscan Monastery is unknown. It was first recorded in 1242. Legend has it, that the founder of Kiel, Earl Adolf IV of Holstein, is also the founder of the monastery.
According to his headstone he died here as a monk. Fragments of the former monastery graveyard, parts from the cloister and refectory as well as the church tower can be viewed. The monastery serves now education as "Theologisches Studienhaus". Protestant halls of residence in Kiel.
