The Nikodemus-church in Handeloh was constructed after a design by the Harbuger artist Annemarie Küster in 1957-59. After the war, many Harburger moved to the Nordheide, thus an independent church community was founded in Handeloh.

Today, the community has around 2000 community members, who live in the 9 surrounding villages. On three Sundays in a month at 10am, services is being celebrated in the Nikodemus-church and on one Sunday in a month, the service is being celebrated in the cross chapel in the church-graveyard in Welle.
