Circa 35.000 soldiers of the imperial navy died at sea during the 1st World War and didn't find a resting place at their home. The memorial in Laboe is dedicated to those soldiers.

It was built from 1927 to 1936 by the Bund Deutscher Marinevereine (Union of German Marine Clubs) and is today


Impressive is the underground memorial hall, where annually over 100 wreaths are laid down as sign of mourning, remembrance and admonition.

The visitor will find at the historical Hall eine many ships models. Right in front of the 85m high accessible tower lays the submarine "U 995", which can be viewed, as the last still existing witness of the
2nd World War.
