The lighthouse has an octagonal foundation. A small memorial hall reminds of the 21st June 1895. Emperor Wilhelm II opened on that day the North Sea-Baltic-Canal, which was then still called Kaiser-Wilhelm-Kanal. The canal has formed since then the shipping connection between the Baltic Sea and the North sea. More info
