Nature pure at the Kaltenhof moor

The Kaltenhofer moor
is an old raised bog, which has been recultivated also with the help of the county Schleswig-Holstein for last few years. Among others the drainage ditches, which were used for drainage are being filled-in so that the moor is being rewetted again. The boggy clearances in the woods also profit from the rewetting of the moor. Right now a great increase in amphibians is being noted.

In addition trees, which are not indigenous to the moor like the Sitka spruce from Alaska, will be cut down bit by bit and not in one go over the next five to ten years. One fifth of the tree population has already been removed.
The moor is absolutely worth protecting. The paths - they more or less dirt tracks - are not to be left.
