The Glocke (Bell)

Bremen chimes – in the Glocke!

The Glocke is the most traditional-steeped centre of musical life in Bremen. The famous Herbert von Karajan, counted the concert house at the Domsheide, which opened in 1928 as one of the three best concert halls in Europe. International celebrated artists like Anne-Sophie Mutter, Thomas Quasthoff, Cecilia Bartoli, Gidon Kremer or Hélène Grimaud love to come again and again to the Glocke. All are impressed by the art-déco ambiance and the excellent acoustic of the concert house, which was completely renovated in 1995-1997. Its location is only a few steps from the Bremen town hall right in the heart of the Hanseatic city.

But the Glocke offers by far more than classic, there are also readings, cabaret and comedy, Jazz and A-cappella-concerts as well as chanson and world music evenings to be found in the programme and thus turning the concert house with its two halls into one of the first addresses in the whole of Northern Germany.

Operator and landlord of the premises is, since the reopening in 1997, the Glocke Veranstaltungs-GmbH, which is responsible for its own series GLOCKE Vocal, GLOCKE Special, the GLOCKE JAZZnights as well as events of music communication for children and youngsters. It is around 10% of the artistic programme.
