The castle resp. the settlement on the castle hill happened around the 9th and 10th-century. Around 1250 knight of Bodendike chose this place as his new residence. The castle situated in a favourable location was then extended under his guidance.
Moated castle Bodenteich's principal item was a round field-stone tower (Motte) of 8 metre diameter, whose relict can be found under the half-timbered building, which is used as the castle's administration today. Here you get information about events e.g. brewery festivals or other medieval events.
In the year 1871 the castle came into private hands and was bought by the 'market town Bodenteich' in 1971. Since 1977 the Kurgesellschaft Bodenteich is owner of the castle terrain. The in 1981 founded 'Förderkreis Burg Bodenteich e. V.' is supporting the restoration of the historical valuable building. The castle was restored with grants from the state Lower Saxony from 1983 - 1988.
Beer was being brewed at the castle from 1634 to 1918.
Next the brewery was a small baking house in the past. It was rebuilt in similar form at a different place in 1993.
The small castle museum is being supported voluntarily by the Förderkreis Burg Bodenteich e.V.
