Tecklenburg, Germany's most northern mountain village, takes visitors through its medieval town facility with the narrow alleys and stairways, dreamy corners and romantic half-timbered houses back to long gone times, when earls resided here in Tecklenburg.
Due to its specially charming location along the western foothills of the Teutoburg Forest, the villages Brochterbeck, Ledde and Leeden give are ideal conditions for cycling and hiking - and especially for Nordic walking. Tecklenburg is for Kneipp-friends also a particularly worthwhile destination. Well signposted hiking routes connect the 5 Kneipp-facilities in and around Tecklenburg.

But not only the medieval town-ensemble is ideal to linger. On the 1st weekend in May, visitors can look forward to the traditional geraniums and spring market, which turns the town centre with its historical half-timbered buildings into a real flower paradise.

At the wine festival, on the 1st September weekend guests will be spoiled with wines and culinary specialities and skilled craftsmanship and the processing of linen will be presented to visitors at the historical linen and crafts market on the 2nd September weekend.
On the last weekend in October, the whole of Tecklenburg celebrates regularly 'Halloween'. Then everything is about ghosts, witches, who dance through the town. Highlights for the children as well as adults are the ghosts parades as well as a 'Spökenkieker-gängsken'.
At the end of the year, the traditional Nikolaus market takes place on the 2nd Advent weekend. The whole of the old town shines on these three days in a festive blaze of lights. Many suppliers snuggle with their wooden shacks in the old town on the historical marketplace and the side streets onto the old half-timbered houses and offer a wide range of ware.

There is also the technique and culture history as living past on offer in and around Tecklenburg. In Tecklenburg you should visit the Dolls' Museum.
For railway fans there is the Tecklenburg north railway train, which runs from Osnabrück-Eversburg to Rheine. There the historical steam trains of the Teuto-Express still runs today at Whitsun and during the Advent and also as Nicholas express from Osnabrück to Mettingen and Recke.
