In 1901 a tiny Waldschänke was opened in the city forest. Here the excursionists could refresh themselves and also regain their strength.

Until 1911 the Waldschänke was extended into the today's Stadtwaldhaus in a Jugendstil. A music pavilion supplements the beer garden. The "Kurhaus and Restaurant" remained and borders directly at the Stadtwaldhaus.

All conversions and new building efforts failed; in the following years after the war the Stadtwaldhaus was only renovated and modernised.

The Stadtwaldhaus has one of the largest beer garden outside of Bavaria. The garden offers outside seats for about 3.000 excursionists.
