The Catholic church was inaugurated on Christmas Eve in 1983. 300 years after the reformation there is once again, a Catholic chaplain. It became necessary as the community in the Diaspora was growing very fast. When the great weavers strike broke out in 1888, local manufacturers hired Silesian workers. So the number of Catholics increased drastically.

The church was built in neo-gothic style after a blueprint by the Hamburger architect Brettschneider. The diocese Osnabrück supported the construction financing and took care of the interior. The relief above the entrance portal made of sandstone from Baumberg near Münster. The wooden coffered ceiling was painted in the design vocabulary of art nouveau in 1911.

The church wasn't destroyed by war and has been completely renovated in 1965.

It was restored for the second time for the 100-year celebration, whereby the community and citizens helped with generous donations. Among others the tabernacle from the foundation time by Christoph and Michael Winkelmann were newly created with contours.
