The Förderkreis Bad Lauterberg e.V. opened in 1997 the South Harzer Ironworks Museum.

The association circle has made it its goal to explore the history of the Königshütte, to document and safeguard the product of the plant and building assets and make the public aware of the Königshütte through exhibitions, talks and publications, work out a utilisation of the historical building and apply for public funds for restoration work.

It gives an interesting inside view into the diverse production of the former steel work in and around the South Harz.

The Königshütte with its plant ensemble, unique in Northern Germany, is a very important and technical monument.

In its totality it is the only existing ironworks in times of mercantilism.
