Since October 2003 belongs the community Schönfließ to the greater community of  Mühlenbecker Land. The small but very charming village is situated in the south-western part of the community and has long been an attractive destination especially for recreation seeking Berliner. Following up on this the community plans now further expansion of the already existing riding, cycle tours and hiking paths. But in last few years not only day trippers were attracted to the village. Many homes were built and so old and new mixes at many places. In 1990 after the reunification only roughly 400 citizens lived in Schönfließ, today there are more than 2.000. Many of the new citizens settled the newly released residential areas, which blend harmonically into the landscape.
Schönfließ is known as one of the traditional villages that are situated around the village green as they were designed in east and east-middle Germany often in the Middle Ages. The village green was community owned at that time.
The village was first recorded in the year 1270. Until today the centre of Schönfließ is the village church. The construction start of the Lord's house goes back to the year 1375. Another important building was the palace with beautiful garden. It belonged to the noble family Veltheim. The former palace was elaborately renovated and houses the village youngest today. The daycare centre 'Villa Kunterbunt' has it's home here. Special highlight of village life are the 'Schönfließ Summer Music', which have been taken place for many year.
