"Within three years it will be possible at our vocational high school“, says Dr. Hans-Joachim Kornblum, manager of the vocational College Kempen. With this certificate you will be entitled to study all fields at all universities and technical colleges.

As such the vocational College is comparable to the upper secondary level education in High Schools as well as in Comprehensive Schools. "This educational program allows the simultaneous acquisition of general knowledge and vocational skills“, so Kornblum.

After one and a half years of renovation the Rhein-Maas Vocational College in Willich was returned to their original function at the end of 2011. "The Vocational College is now modern, well equipped and developed magnificently", the school principal Dr. Hans-Joachim Kornblum praised the successful development, which cost 6,7 million Euro. Of which 3,33 Mio. EURO originates from the economic stimulus package II. These monies went into the energetical renovation of the house built in the 60's; the other half of the money came from the district of Viersen.
District administrator Peter Ottmann particularly highlighted the avant-garde and colourful outer Fassade "Trespa", which only exists in Germany in the cities of Berlin and Hamburg: "This reminds at the Gehry-houses in the Medien port in Düsseldorf." The just about 600 vocational trainees of Willich studying agricultural business and trade as well as economics and administration and the two dozen of teachers locked the extraordinary school building already in their hearts- the architecture speaks the language of the young people. Particularly liked is the new cafeteria, which is elliptically formed between the two main buildings creating an optical centre point. The outer facilities, where now and still the landscapers rule, will absorb the architectural charm of the Trespa-Fassade.
The office of the architects Wien from Brüggen most probably produced a success story, having a the model character for more public buildings in Germany. "Only in the last week we were allowed a guided tour with 20 interested architects from Hessen in this building", says architect Stefan Wiens.
The school principal of Willich Wolfgang Elling reviewed the time of the renovation. The normal school operation continued during the complete period. Elling: "Our Motto is ,School in movement' . After two tiring years I can state: Pupils and teachers moved more than ever."

Bicycle art

Five coloured bicycles decorate the main entrance of the Rhein-Maas Vocational College. The idea was developed by the pupils of the Vocational College. The bicycles create an optical link to the new logo of the school and present a hamonious picture. In addition the bicycles reflect the motto of the Vocational school " School in motion", which originates from the 150 year anniversary in the year 2011.
The planning and implementation of the project were organised by the girls and boys from the wood and metal sector under the auspices Josef Greinert and Roland Matheke. The pupils sanded, primed and coloured the discarded bicycles. Subsequently the youngsters welded the movable parts and exchanged the leather saddles with metal saddles. This created a hand made eye catcher, which can be admired in the outer area of the entrance Terwelpstraße.
