Every human being wants that something of him remains after his death. With the project Portajom we would like offer the possibility to people to set themselves an individual and dignified monument before or after their death.

Portajom is a new concept of the urn burial. The basic philosophy is, that the 'face' that the deceased had developed during lifetime is being projected onto the burial site. Interested persons can create or select a picture during lifetime themselves, which is to be immortalised onto a memorial plaque. This way not only the usual constellation whereby the family is taking care of the grave is an option but also that interested persons may select and design their own burial site before they die. Thus the grave site can be realised during lifetime in a form that the deceased would like and enables a return to old values.

The Deutsche Friedhofsgesellschaft (German Graveyard Society) together with the artist Alexander Jokisch were able to find a contemporary and at the same time lasting form when we have to say goodbye to a beloved person. We were able to put this new concept whereby death, so to say, gets a face into one word: 'Portajom'.
