Guided tours might start again in 2016.

The Palais Schaumburg functioned as the first official Federal Chancellery and thus that of the German Chancellor from 1949 to 1976. Today, it is the secondary residence of the Federal Chancellery. The villa was built from 1858–60 and received its present appearance through several rebuildings and extensions at the end of the 19th-century. Even after finishing a new building for the Federal Chancellery in 1976 , it was still termed as the 'House of the chancellor'. It serves mostly representative purposes. Due to the transfer of the government seat in 1999, the Palais Schaumburg serves as the second official residence of the Federal Chancellery and the Chancellor since May 2001.
