Palace Blankenhain

At Blankenhain, a village of the large district town Crimmitschau is the former knight's estate Palace Blankenhain situated. In the place of the present palace a moated castle was first mentioned in the year 1423.

A devastating palace fire in the year 1661 destroyed half of the knight's estate. The re-construction lasted to the year 1699. The still existing pretty French roof with its baroque tower cap stems from the year 1765.
The palace was to be pulled down after the end of the 2nd World War on order by the Soviet occupying forces but luckily through intervention by brave Blankenhainer this could be stopped.

The front-palace from the year 1699 stands parallel to the palace and was used as farm building namely as stable and vehicle shed. After several building alterations in the course of the 18th and 19th century the front palace was reconstructed in the year 1949 by massive construction intervention into two new farmer's farmsteads.
The present state of construction is a compromise of the most recent building alteration and neo-baroque facade.

After a radical cutover land in the year 1945, which also affected the park trees, the palace ground was set back into its original condition from 1890/1900 on the basis of historical maps and documents with funds from the Free State of Saxony.

The Palace Blankenhain is today a unique museum's complex; it houses the Agrarian and Open-air Museum.
