The Schwanentor Bridge connects via the inland port the city centre with the districts Kaßlerfeld and Ruhrort. As a lift bridge it can be lifted several metres as required, so that ships can enter the rear of the inland harbour. In the past there was a medieval swan gate at this place.

On the southern part of the bridge at the Calaisplatz is the Steiger Schwanentor located. Here the ships of the white fleet depart, which offer apart from the well-known and popular harbour tours also diverse special tours.
