Sweet and salty -
Nature experience at the Katinger Watt with the NABU.

Where fresh water and seawater meet, oystercatcher and avocets breed and thousands of ducks and geese spend the winter there at the estuary of the Eider, is the
Katinger Watt.

Until the completion of the Eider barrier in 1973, wide mudflat landscapes formed the appearance of the Katinger Watt. Today we discover where once the mudflat worm dug, a polder landscape formed by fresh water. We will find many biotope types places, which are a hideaway for several animal and plant species. To bring you, the visitor to the peninsula Eiderstedt, this fascinating area nearer, the Naturschutzbund Deutschland (nature conservation federation Germany) maintains the Nature centre Katinger Watt between the old Eider dyke and the new outer dyke to the North Sea.

The Nature Centre Katinger Watt, prepares a very special event, every year in May - the NaturErlebnisDays.
At a Nature-Experience-Fair, leading optics manufacturers present cameras, binoculars and spotting scopes Sand equipment suppliers their outdoor product range. Nature and environmental protection organisations present their engagement between the Baltic Sea and North Sea. The NABU organises a thrilling programme for children and teenagers.
