Museum House Esters

The Museum House Esters was built by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe as a residential house for the family of Josef Esters (Director of the United Silk-Weaving Company, Krefeld) between 1928 and 1930.

In 1976 the city of Krefeld could purchase this house. In 1981 the museum house Esters was opened as an additional exhibition institute for changing exhibitions of contemporary art. After an extensive restoration the museum could be reopened in the year 2000.

In „Portrait of Coosje’s Thinking“ Oldenburg established a memorial for the straight forward intelligence of his second wife. A toothbrush with snow white tooth paste balances diagonally on the border of a cup.
