Meyer Werft (shipyard)
The Meyer Werft is one of the world's most well-known and largest shipyards. It specialises in the constructing of car and passenger ferries, gas-tankers and cattle transporters and since 1986 as well as luxury cruise ships. All ships are being built in in Papenburg (where the world's largest roofed construction dock is located), so right in the inland, which made the building of the Ems barrage necessary.
If you want to experience ship building close-up then you have to take part in a guided shipyard tour. Guided shipyard tours for groups is possible at any time by prior booking at the tourist information under the telephone number 04961 8396-0.
Public guided shipyard tours for private persons take place in the season from April to October daily at 2.30pm.
