LWL State Museum of Art and Cultural History in Muenster







The museum's medieval collection is tightly connected to the history of the city of Münster. The historical inventories encompass important artworks since the early Middle Ages, which were created in the region and neighbouring areas. Emphasises are in Romanesque and Gothic monumental sculpture and the early Westhphalian panel painting.

The Renaissance is represented by the Münster painter family Tom Ring.
The big events in Westphalia's history, like the Münster rebellion and the Peace of Westphalia are mirrored as well as collections from Baroque times.
The State Museum presents ongoing special exhibitions about different themes. Until the 31.01.2010 Peter Schamoni met Max Ernst – greetings from Max Ernst.
