Lighthouse Bastorf

In the year 1876, the lighthouse Buk was constructed by the Kröpeliner master builder Hansen with the help of workers from Kühlungsborn in only 18 months. The lighthouse was put into operation in 1878. In 1912, the petroleum fire was replaced by an electric lamp.

Until the 1060ties, the tower was, due to its exposed location on an elevation, 79m above sea level, an attractive destination, until it became off limits for military reasons. In 1979, the last lighthouse keeper left, the facility is fully automated now. The residence was then used as a children's holiday camp by the former National People's Army. In 1991, the property was taken over by the state's water and shipping administration.

At the foot of the tower, is the café & restaurant 'Valentins' with its own pastry shop, which uses regional high-quality products only and traditional crafts, according to their own statement.

We recommend a visit to the Bastorfer lighthouse, because a spectacular view in 80m height over the Baltic Sea is something very special.

In good weather, one can see in the east the cooling tower of the Rostock coal-fired power station and the crane installations of the Nordic Yards (Warnow Shipyard) in Warnemünde, in the west the Wismarer Bay, in the northwest the island Fehmarn and the Offshore wind farms Rödsand I and II.

Kühlungsborn's west part can be reached easily from here by bicycle in around 10 minutes and on foot in ca. 40 minutes.
