The town charter was received in 1174 and then the Liebfrauen-Church was  consecrated as mother church of the Jüterbog land. After the building was in parts destroyed in 1179 during the Wendish rebellion - the new consecration took place in 1182.

The church including proceeds were handed over by the monks in 1280 to a convent of Cistercian nuns. The church was restored in 1890 by Friedrich Adler, as well as 1936 and 1970/71.

At the retable in the choir one can see a painting from 1710. The pulpit, made of sandstone, is an example of special renaissance architecture and was created by the sculptor Georg Schröter from Torgau in 1575.
The organ was built in 1737 by Joachim Wagner from Berlin 1737.

The church's exterior was refurbished from 2000 to 2005 and then inaugurated.
