Lake Aa in Muenster

Lake Aa, Münster's local recreation area right in the city centre

40 ha large, 2.100 metres long and 2m deep is Lake Aa. The circular path around Lake Aa has a length of ca. 6,4 km and is ideal for a discovery walking tour or cycling.
The 'old Lake Aa' up to the Tormin Bridge, was artificially designed from 1926 to 1934 , to protect the city from floods. Until then, the river Aa meandered through the wet and boggy meadows in the area of the present lake. In 1976 the 'new Lake Aa' with its yacht harbour was added behind the Tormin Bridge.
