In the historical town hall in Osterode, the town council met, which managed the administration business, decrees issued and administered justice.

The cellar was used as a wine cellar, where the public bar was housed.
The ground floor was market hall and department store.

A fire destroyed the house in 1545. The foundation was used to build the present house in 1552 whereby the annexes behind the house were built in 1861 and 1906.

Well worth mentioning is the gable side, the whale rip, which was supposed to protect the Osteroder from floods.
