The joined community Himmelpforten makes an extraordinary impression last but not least through the windmills in Grefenmoor and Himmelpforten. The windmill in Grefenmoor was built in the years 1853/54. A petition in the year 1847 supported the building significantly. In 1896 the mill burned near completely down after lightning and was the rebuilt as a one-level smock-windmill, which still exists today. Meanwhile the mill has been renovated and gives visitors an interesting insight into the miller trade. Today the mill can be viewed by appointment and one can even to a 'mill diploma' to get to know more about the mill.

In the year 1871 the four-level smock-windmill in Himmelpforten was built with three shred gears and one milling gear as substitute for the loss-making watermill. The mill operation, which became partly independent of wind and water through motorisation became redundant in 1971. The 'Wehber´sche Mill' in Himmelpforten could be saved through restoration in the years 1985/86. This mill can also be viewed by appointment during the usual business hours.
