Hesedorf

The village was named after the stream Hese. During the old Saxon times a militia existed in the country side. The proof are the findings of lances, battle axes and hand axes.

Today Hesedorf has about 2.300 inhabitants and is a township of the city of Bremervörde. The waterway of the river Hese and the Pulvermühlenbach (powder mill stream) are of interest to tourists.

In 1911 a memorial stone was positioned amidst a stately group of oak trees at the corner of Landwehrdamm/ Friedensstraße. This memorial shall be a reminder of the citizens who lost their lives in 1812 in Russia and 1815 at Waterloo.
