Goennebek's village square

In the year 1908 Henning Oldekop described Gönnebek's village square in the 2nd volume of his Duchy of Holstein's topography as follows: »The building style of the village Gönnebek still shows the Wendish form; the free place around the houses are grouped forms more or less an oval, which diameter is 290m and 100m. (…) On this place grow 190 trees: 3 peace oaks, 1 double oak, lime trees, chestnuts, copper beeches, Platanus.«
Whether original Wendish or not – the Gönnebeker cherish their village square including the village pond. It is one of the prettiest in the county.
