Our singing club was founded in 1878 initially as a pure men's choir. But also financial interest may have contributed to the founding of our choir.

It was right from the beginning a middle-class choir with tradesman members. Our choir was then already one of the most important singing clubs during the period of promoterism and influenced the happenings of our town until today.

Many singers fell victim to the two world wars. From the wreckage of the 2nd World War arose new hope and singing joy again. Women joined and the men's choir became a mixed choir.

During the founding time of the DDR many trade's people left our town for the just founding BRD. Our club not only lost many singers but also its material basis.

All clubs were dissolved during DDR times. Our club was listed as "Lyra-Chor" and as last existing middle-class club not really supported by the state.

At the time of the reunification our club only had 22 mostly elderly members. "New Blood" came form the dissolved choir communities former people's enterprises, our club recovered.
Currently we are roughly 35 active singers, most of which are retired people. Luckily we are guided by a young music student, Volker Reichert, our choirmaster.
