The watermill was once part of the manor Obersteinpleis. The mill was driven by a water wheel, which was fed by the river Pleiße. Everything went well until the year 1733, when the mill burned down. It was rebuilt and is still in the same place today.

Until 1918 it was only a small malt-mill and was consequently extended in the course of the following decades and each time furnished with the newest technique. In the year 1926 the 1st roller mill was bought and in 1948 again rebuilt and enlarged. The mill was driven by water turbines until 1956. Then industry moved in and cut off the mill's water supply. The electro motor took over the drive.
