The town of Schwiegershausen, with about 1.800 inhabitants, is located between Osterode and Wulften and the town has been belonging to the city Osterode since 1972.
The coat of arms of Schwiegershausen reflects the baptismal font originating from the early Gothic period (around 1250) and further the bowing heads of wheat pointing to the roots of the joint community. Here the soil provides the nourishment for the population.

Schwiegershausen can look back to 900 years of village history and also to more than 400 years of parish community.

The most well known citizen of Schwiegershausen is Marco Bode, born in 1969. The Open University student of Mathematics grew up in the little town of Schwiegershausen and started playing football at the VfR Osterode. He played football in the regional league when the Werder talent spotter Rolf Behrens recognised his abilities.
