Bremer Kaffeehaus-Orchestra

The Bremer Kaffeehaus-Orchestra is a unique ensemble of five musicians, who are dedicated, since the graduation from their classical music studies in 1990, full-time to the cultural phenomenon 'Kaffeehaus-Music'.

Anselm Hauke, Constantin Dorsch, Gero John, Johannes Grundhoff and Klaus Fischer have played together under the name 'Bremer Kaffeehaus-Orchestra', since the 30th of April 1990. The cast has been unchanged since then.

There must be something, that motivates people, to play together for a such a long time: To stay the same all these years, we had and have to change all the time.

After we met during our music study, we developed and cared for our first twelve years a 'classical' Kaffeehaus-Repertoire, from Strauss to Grieg, from Lincke to Lehár, from Elgar to Toselli, and back again.

With our 'Winter Wonderland', started, then in 2002 an affair with swing music, which hasn't finished until today. To North American swing, we added by and by in the following years, South American Tango, French chanson, Mozart, Ravel, Schostakowitsch, Japanese cherry blossoms, the Beatles and again and again something new.

The instruments were also extended: Klaus Fischer added to his flute and piccolo, the alto saxophone, clarinet and bass clarinet. But Constantin Dorsch topped it all by the wind instrument development, when he in addition to the violin, he distinguished himself as an elegant and beautiful sound Vuvuzela-player.

In short:

The music of the Bremer Kaffeehaus-Orchestra is for us, the result of a lively way and method where we – as performers, editors and composers – come into contact with extreme different music forms of the last 75 years and as well with the 'classics' of the last three and a half centuries. We call it the 'Kaffeehaus-Music of the 21st Century'.

The constant advancement of the repertoire, doesn't only makes it easy for us, to stay awake and oin constant movement, but also takes care of a permanent renewal of the refreshing relationship with our audience. Playful openness, interest in musical limits and a lovingly communicative attitude towards the audience leave no place for boredom after all these years. We look forward to every new concert. Again and again.
