Baroque Palace Milkel - the Moritz Castle of the Lausitz

The baroque palace Milkel, also called the Moritz castle of the Lausitz was built in the 13th and 14th century by the family Metzradt. It was a moated castle before and was used as fortification.The biggest part of the palace is on oak beams on which the felling date 1303 can be seen. The palace received its present appearance from 1719 - 1720.

  • 1769 to 1809 owned by family Einsiedel
  • 1916 to 1946 owned by family von Holnstein
  • 1946 to 1948 lodging for refugees from Silesia and Pomerania
  • 1948 to 1953 FDGB training facility
  • 1953 to 1993 Sorbs language school with bording school 
  • 1993 to 1998 stood empty and was owned by the Free State of Saxony

The Free State of Bavaria looked until 1998 for a buyer and when nobody could be found Palace Milkel was abandoned and it fell into disrepair.The palace is owned since 1998 by the family Fuchs. It was extensively renovated in the old style.
The palace is used today as a conference and meeting venue and also as residence.
