Barn windmill and lots of nature in Mellensee

The villages of the community Am Mellensee have lots of nature to offer as well as history. Klausdorf had 11 brickyards. Remnants from this time and one still working brickyard as well as many clay pits can be still visited today.

Sperenberg experienced an important economical upswing through industrial gypsum exploitation.

During this time the village had the world's deepest borehole for 15 years.

Guests can get information about the village's historical development in a local history parlour and an exhibition at the train station.

Near Rehagen one can discover former clay pits, which are now filled with water. The village has a reconstructed village centre with monument, angling ponds and a musicians' barn.

A place of interest in Saalow is a former post mill, which was converted into a smock-mill. There is also a so-called barn windmill in the village, which stems from the Erzgebirge.

In Kummersdorf-Alexanderdorf one can visit the Benedictine abbey Sankt Gertrud with park facility. In the village Kummersdorf is a former steam-mill from 1873 still working.

In Kummersdorf-Gut you can take part in a guided tour through the permanent exhibition about military history at the former firing range Kummersdorf (Tues and Thurs from 10am to 3pm). Extensive woods with the Gadsdorfer Höllenbergen over which a Europe-wide developed hiking path runs and meadows from the picture around Gadsdorf.
