Founded around the year 1000 as a larger Saxon settlement Bargteheide developed into a central market village early. Today the former 'big-village' is a modern town and carries the appellation of friendly shopping city.
Here is also the watershed between North Sea and Baltic Sea located.
Next to the signboard of the market fonts there are two archetype of Bargteheide the Sheppard Schacht and Schinderhannes.
For a long time the present restaurant Utspann was the mayor's office. The Fachhallen-house has been built on a granite base between 1785 and 1795.
