Aula (auditorium) at the Wilhelmsplatz in Göttingen

The prestigious auditorium is available for concerts and festivities.

The lower area of the auditorium has around 400 seats, the gallery level further 152 seats. Changing of the seating is not possible.

Smaller receptions up to 150 persons can be held in the small auditorium.

For the construction of the university's auditorium, in the year 1837, the Fransiscan monastery church had to be pulled down.

Sponsor of the prestigious building was King William IV of Prussia; he wasn't able to participate in the inauguration as he had died shortly before.

The sculptor Ernst von Bandel created a monument for him, which decorates the Wilhelmsplatz since then. The same sculptor created also the gables of the classicism building, which depict the four faculties and the Genius of science. The interior of the auditorium is also well worth seeing.
