Amelsbüren is, surface wise the biggest city district of Münster, because, among others the farming communities Sudhoff, Loevelingloh and Wilbrenning belong to the village. With that the expansive woods like the Davert and the Hohe Ward also belong to Amelsbüren. First mentioned in the year 1137 (Amelsbüren became a parish), the name derives probably from the brook Emmerbach, which flows through the village.
